McGinnis Loy Associates is proud to be working with a Top40 Accountancy Practice who have seen vast growth over the last five years and are now looking for a Personal Tax Manager to join their growing team in Central London. Reporting to the Tax Partner, the role would ideally suit an ATT Qualified or ACA/ACCA Qualified tax specialist from a Top100 or Regional Accountancy practice, or Tax Boutique. You will be coaching junior members of the team, reviewing personal tax computations and you should be able to demonstrate both strong compliance & advisory expertise. Key duties include:
- Reviewing multiple personal tax returns within agreed service levels and quality standards, identifying additional tax planning opportunities
- Alongside the Partner, leading work on complex personal tax advisory projects and dealing directly with clients
- Generating new leads and winning new personal tax clients
- Managing your own portfolio of 150+ self-employed, private estates and family/business-related personal tax clients
- Dealing with basic and complex tax queries on behalf of clients, and preparation of client meeting notes for the team
- Planning and reviewing work carried out by team juniors to ensure personal tax work is completed within timeframes and budget
- Completing appraisals for all Tax members of staff to enhance their effectiveness
- Assisting with tax efficient family structures and with IHT/CGT re-balancing for tax planning purposes that are HMRC-compliant
- Liaising directly with clients and HMRC regarding personal tax matters on the phone and in person, and others in the tax and audit departments
- Identifying changes in UK Tax legislation and how this may impact the portfolio
- Ensuring the quality of personal tax work is done to agreed cost and timescales
To be considered for the Personal Tax Manager role, you should ideally be seeking a move to an accountancy practice where wider responsibilities and a broader client base will be made available to you. Knowledge and experience of reviewing personal tax computations, dealing with some complex tax advisory issues and managing a diverse UK client portfolio is required. You should ideally have the ATT or ACA/ACCA Qualification and you should be proficient in staff management, coaching & training, dealing with client tax issues and HMRC questions. With excellent team working skills and relationship building skills, you should be able to help develop new and existing Tax business, work well under pressure yet still deliver on time and budget.
